The Self Sustaining EchoSphere can be your own fascinating little biosphere. It contains 3 to 4 marine shrimp, algae and micro-organisms. It is made form hand blown glass and it is completely enclosed and, as the title says, self-sustaining. The only thing the EcoSphere needs is indirect artificial or natural light, and room temperature, between 60F and 80F.
The way it works is on the basis that an enclosed ecosystem recycles its’ nutrients and does not produce excess waste. The shrimp consume the algae and micro-organisms, and they break down the shrimp waste. You do not need to change the water or feed them at all. The technology has been been developed by NASA in an attempt to study our own planet’s biosphere.
Additionally, each Self Sustaining EcoSphere comes with a replacement, recharge or upgrade policy.
